Dear Friends,

It is a pleasure to extend greetings to each of you attending the Friendship Through Education Workshop and to welcome your participation in People to People International (PTPI) and, specifically, our School and Classroom Program. We believe teachers, students and families will find this program a worthwhile and rewarding experience.

School and Classroom Program ended its first year since its revitalization with more than 22,000 students in 50 countries. Every week, schools and classrooms around the world continue to join this program to embark on an educational, cultural adventure with peers in another country. The impact of friendships made extends beyond the teachers and their students to families and to entire communities.

When my grandfather, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, founded People to People International, he said “given a chance, people will make friends across, around, over and under all the natural and man-made barriers which separate them.

On behalf of the People to People International family, I applaud the commitment you have shown toward enhancing communication and promoting educational youth activities. People to People strives to reach beyond man-made borders and language barriers in celebration of the human spirit. What better way to ensure the continuance of this vital cause than to introduce young people to these fine efforts.

To all of you gathered for this workshop, I thank you for your efforts as we create friendships and, ultimately, seek a lasting peace for our children and grandchildren.

Your Partner in Peace,

Mary Jean Eisenhower

Dear Mary

I am Zubia Izhar, the Event Coordinator at Shahwilayat Public School.
Reading your message made me feel great. I am now thinking and realizing that how important it is to be a part of the global family so that we can together enable our children to become the bearers of peace and messengers of love and friendship.
Hope to continue this interactive program promotion and integration within our own system.
regards
Zubia

Dear Teachers:

As one of many teachers working with People to People International, I would like to take this opportunity to greet you and say we look forward to communicating with all of you through the People to People School and Classroom Program. This is a great opportunity to get to know each other and share our views. This is also a great way for our students to talk with each other and share their experiences. In the long run communication can only help us all cooperate on the world scene.

Once again welcome to the People to People community. Sincerely and Respectfully Yours,

Dear Colleagues:

I teach Language Arts and Social Studies to 6th graders in San Francisco, California. My students are ages 12 and 13 years old. They are learning English as a Second Language as they come from families that have immigrated to the United States from Latin American countries.

I would like to have my students exchange with students from a Muslim country.

Welcome teachers from Pakistan,

It is a honor for me to welcome you into the People To People International (PTPI) family and organization. I am a school counselor in a town outside of Albany and have a group of students participating in the Classroom Program. For my students ages 11 and 12 years, it has been a wonderful adventure about opening our hearts and minds to another culture.

We have a "sister school" in Denmark and we are very excited because we will be visiting Denmark this summer and attending school there and living with the families of students. We have had the opportunity to share parts of our culture with them - we made Native American dream catchers for our sister school and are in the process of making a CD about life at <Algonquin Middle School.

But for me, as an educator, I believe that helping our children understand and respect another culture, is the true reason I am involved. It is my own personal way of making my “peace for the world” statement.

Welcome,

Karen Maher
