iEARN Beginners' Workshop at 

The Karachi High School 

 

A one day iEARN beginners' workshop was organized at the Karachi High School on 14th December 2002

  "Today's experience was very interesting as I learnt about the iEARN projects and the way they have united people globally" . (a workshop participant)

20 teachers of classes 4-10 of English, Science , Moths, Social Studies, Biology and Geography attended the day long session along with their Principal and headmistress enjoyed exploring the world of online learning as they learned about iEARN projects and programmes and interacted with iEANers online.

The day long workshop focused at introducing iEARN to the middle and high school teachers of the Karachi High School. The various sessions provided hands on opportunities to the teachers enabling them to :

- Explore the iEARN website

- Read and respond to the welcome messages in the 

Interactive forum'

-Identify the iEARN projects that corresponds to the subjects/syllabus they are currently teaching.

-Complete the time line for the short term action plan for integrating one iEARN project in the curriculum.

Following this workshop we expect the students of KHS to participate in the iEARN projects: 'Animals are Our Friends', 'Dinosaur', 'School of Clowns Math Project',Waste Problem or possibility', Fight Against Drugs, Fight Against Labor, Our Baby and several other projects

iEARN and Karachi High School-An Overview: The Principal attended an iEARN orientation first time in 2000 in the US Consulate General-Karachi. The school participated in the Teddy bear Project. However she felt the need for a focused workshop for her faculty to initiate iEARN projects schools wide.

Under the dynamic leadership of Parveen Kassim, the Karachi High School is doing a wonderful job of promoting the talented youth nationwide. KHS accommodates 650 students students from K-12, with a special emphasis on IT for teaching and learning. 

 KHS have one of the best computer labs of the city with high speed connectivity. We at iEARN are extremely thankful to the school management for their generous offer to host the  iEARN-CIVICS-BRIDGE workshops in their school and computer laboratory.
