Midhat Naqvi from Pakistan living in Georgia, Atlanta-USA won the
AYUSA International Education Week 2003 Award (IEW)
AYUSA IEW Contest - Midhat Naqvi from Pakistan living in Georgia!
The runner-ups were Mariya Khudyakova from Russia and Maya Alkateb from
Syria.
The participation this year from AYUSA students was outstanding with
involvement ranging from classroom presentations to homemade DVDs promoting
international education!
Choosing a winner of AYUSA's IEW Contest was extremely challenging and required
a special committee to be formed to evaluate all the entries.
Midhats' Activities For the IEW 2003
Every day during IEW, Midhat wore a different Shalwaz Kameez - the traditional
Pakistan outfit and participated in promoting not only her own country, but
spreading the word about international education in a variety of ways.

Some of Midhat's activities included:
* Volunteered at the Atlanta Children's Shelter (a homeless shelter for
children ages 6 months to 5 years old preparing them for the public
school system).
* Spoke to 3 classes (60 students) at her host sister's elementary
school and showed the children how to make the Pakistan country flag and
how to write in Pakistan and Urdu.
* Hosted an International Potluck and invited people to bring dishes
from their home country. The countries represented included India,
Syria, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Jamaica, United States, Belgium, China,
Lebanon, and Greece. * Wrote a speech about education in Pakistan, which
was read during her school's morning announcements.
* Organized a presentation table about her home country with information
and as part of the Cultural Diversity Program at Decatur High School.
* Wrote an article for the paper that will be published in December.

As the winner of the AYUSA IEW Contest, Midhat will receive a trip on

travel programs to destinations including
New York, California and Hawaii. AYUSA thanks Explore America for supporting
international education and exchange for over 15 years!
At iEARN-Pakistan we are all proud of Midhat and he contribution towards
promoting Pakistani culture among her American peers. This a great example
of cross cultural understanding and friendship across geographical bounderies.
