The spring through the summer of 2003 has been nothing but excitement and enthusiasm for schools, students, educators and families in the USA and in Pakistan, triggered by the launch of the Partnership for Learning –Youth Exchange and Studies Program. 28 Pakistani high school students are finally settled in grades 10 or 11 in High Schools all over the different States of America. Read the extracts from students' journals. The YES finalist were selected by a collaborative effort of iEARN-Pakistan and its collaborators. The selection was based on final exhaustive interviews 21 students from Karachi (7 girls and 14 boys) and 8 students from Islamabad and Pindi (1 girl and 7 boys) from 12 schools were selected to participate in the first round of the YES program. These students are placed in carefully chosen American host families by experienced youth exchange organizations, AYUSA International and ASSE, which are monitoring and advising the students throughout their stay in the US. Major expenses such as airfare, room and board, pocket money and most other costs, paid for by the YES scholarship, made dreams come true for majority of the Pakistani students, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to participate in such programs. The selected students were all enrolled in a free 'Pre Departure Orientation and Language Proficiency Module ' which is designed and delivered by iEARN-Pakistan and The Learning Centre in Karachi and iEARN and Rotary of Club Islamabad West for Pindi and Islamabad students.
