iEARN Beginners Workshop

An iEARN beginners workshop was arranged on 22nd May, 2010 at iEARN Centre Karachi. 18 teachers from different schools in Karachi registered for this workshop. The workshop focused at helping teachers integrate ICT in curriculum through meaningful iEARN projects that improve the language proficiency of students as well as improving other skills such as communication and ICT. The participants explored different iEARN projects, learned to work in the iEARN Collaboration Centre and participated in other interesting activities. They also made an integration plan for implementing iEARN projects in schools.

Creating Media with Purpose

iEARN Pakistan team conducted a 2-day workshop for "Creating Media with Purpose" on 7th and 8th May 2010. A group of 17 teachers from different schools in Karachi attended this workshop. Teachers from different campuses of Beaconhouse School Systems, Meritorious School Network, Karachi High School, Habib Public School and Govt. SITE Model School attended this workshop. The aim of this workshop was to enable teachers to learn skills necessary for successful ICT integration in classrooms through iEARN online projects and learn new strategies to engage students in interactive, student-centered, cooperative learning projects. The workshop also focused to equip participants with the technical skills to author their own digital content and teaching resources using graphics, sound or video and use appropriate technologies to assist the achievement of particular learning outcomes. Teachers showed great interest in learning new strategies and developing media contents like posters, videos clips and public service messages etc. They also learned to develop their own teaching resources for integration in their lesson plans.

YouthCaN Video Conference 2010

A group of 20 Pakistani students including iEARN YES alumni and students from a local Government School participated in YouthCaN Conference through Video Conferencing on 26th April 2010 arranged at iEARN Centre, Karachi. YouthCaN is a youth run organization that uses technology to inspire, connect and educate people worldwide about environmental issues. Every year this conference is held in American Museum of Natural History, New York in which youth collaborates with other YouthCaN students around the world to exchange their ideas, findings, and knowledge about the environment.

Conference session started at 07:25pm (PST) with a warm welcome from YouthCaN project facilitator Jay Holmes and a student representative from NewYork(NYC) City followed by introductions of YouthCaN members from both sides. Talha Qureshi, YouthCaN coordinator from Pakistan presented projects done by students in Pakistan through a PowerPoint presentation and discussed the success stories which were highly appreciated by NYC group. Pakistani youth answered the questions raised by students in New York. Pakistani YouthCaN members also discussed their future plans for implementing various environmental activities in different cities of Pakistan. The session ended at 08:10pm (PST) with concluding remarks by moderator from iEARN Pakistan and a vote of thanks on behalf of entire Pakistani group.

YouthCaN Workshop

A 5-hours YouthCaN workshop was arranged for a group of 20 teachers from different schools in Karachi on 17th April 2010. This workshop was arranged at iEARN Centre, Karachi. The workshop session started with the project introduction followed by a slide show and PowerPoint presentation by YouthCaN Pakistan group member to show them steps Pakistani students have taken for the betterment of environment. the objective of this workshop was to give awareness to teachers how to engage their students in iEARN YouthCaN projects and motivate them to do environmental improvement activities. At the end of the session teachers were asked to make a plan for carrying out environmental projects in their school and submit activity plans on the YouthCaN forum for discussion.

"Digital Imaging Across Curriculum" Workshop

iEARN Pakistan arranged a 2-day workshop on "Digital Imaging Across Curriculum" at iEARN Centre, Karachi on 9th and 10th April 2010. The workshop focused on online projects that uses digital imaging like Eye-to-Eye, Global Art-Images of Caring, One Day in the life, Cultural Recipe, Folk Costumes and Side-by-Side etc.  The various sessions of workshop also included tips and techniques of photography, use of picture editing software, types of graphics, scanning and transmitting digital images and knowing a digital camera.

Participants were also given time for hands-on experience for taking the perfect picture using digital camera and learn image editing using software. They also participated in different iEARN online projects and posted their work in the forums. In the end they made an action plan for implementing and running iEARN projects in their classrooms.

iEARN Online Project Based Learning & Youth  Volunteering and Community Service Workshop

A 2-day iEARN beginners workshop was arranged on 2nd and 3rd April, 2010 at iEARN Centre Karachi. A group of 13 teachers from different schools in Karachi attended this workshop. The workshop focused at helping teachers integrate ICT in curriculum through online curriculum based projects. Teachers were involved in different project based activities during the session and enjoyed the world of online learning. The participants explored different iEARN projects, learned to work in the iEARN Collaboration Centre and participated in other interesting activities. They also made an integration plan for implementing iEARN projects in schools.

"Achay Dost" Seminar - A Project on 'Child Protection' in collaboration with UNICEF

A seminar was organized by Society for International Education in collaboration with UNICEF-Sindh and Social Welfare Department in Karachi on 30th Jan 2010.  The title of seminar was “Lessons Learnt and Advocacy Seminar on Social Change through Child Participation". Ceremony started with recitation of Holy Quran followed by a welcome note by Mr.Tahir Javed, Finance Secretary, SIE. He welcomed the participants giving SIE and seminar intro. Presentations were made by Youth forum members and participants of listeners group, who shared their experiences and learning with the audiences. Project Mobilization Officer, M. Abdullah and FM program RJ Fariha Ayub also shared their experiences. A panel discussion on Child Participation was also organized. Chief Guest Ms.Sharmila Farooqi, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Human Rights also addressed the gathering. Mr. Sohail Ahmed, Child protection Officer and Dr. Jabeen Fatima, Child Protection Specialist shared their views on the project. In the end, Chief Guest Ms.Sharmila Farooqi, gave away shields to the experts and certificates of participation to the Youth Forum members.

iEARN Training of the Trainers Workshop 2010

iEARN–Pakistan conducted 4-day "Training of the Trainers 2010" workshop for educators from Pakistan and other iEARN countries around the world from 17th -20th January 2010. This workshop was attended by 32 teachers who came from different cities of Pakistan and also from other countries including UAE and USA. These educators also attended the seminar on "Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century" on 16th Jan 2010. This international event provided professional support and training to a core group of iEARN professionals with the objective of enabling them to implement, manage and make the iEARN programs and activities sustainable in their schools and communities. The workshop was conducted by Diane C. Midness, Professional Development Coordinator, iEARN USA and the iEARN Pakistan team. The seminar and the iEARN Master Trainers’ course was sponsored by iEARN USA and Doris Duke Foundation of Islamic Art and Society for International Education.

iEARN Seminar - Teaching & Learning in the 21st Century

iEARN–Pakistan organized a daylong Seminar on 16th January 2010 on Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century. The seminar was attended by more than 200 participants of iEARN partner schools and other organizations. Seminar presentations were done by local and international speakers who shared their thoughts and ideas with audience. The seminar sessions included understanding the ‘digital natives’ and a need of restructuring learning experiences for a 21st century learners. Universal Children's Day & 20th Anniversary of Convention on the Rights of the Child

iEARN Pakistan in collaboration with UNICEF – Sindh and Social Welfare Department, Government of Sindh organized an event to commemorate Universal Children’s Day and the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child on 20th November 2009 in Karachi. The event included an art exhibit by children on child rights, an oration competition and a workshop for children on child rights. About 300 art works by children were exhibited. Oration competition was composed of English and Urdu orations by children and the winners and runner ups were given awards. 50 children and 20 teachers participated in the workshop on child rights. Minister for Social Welfare, Government of Sindh Mrs. Nargis N.D. Khan was the Chief Guest. She distributed the certificates among the young artists who submitted their art works for the art exhibition.

MDGs - Only With Your Voice Workshop, Karachi, Pakistan

A group of 20 teachers from 11 different schools of Karachi, Pakistan attended a one day “MDGs- Only With Your Voice” Workshop on Nov 13, 2009 organized at iEARN Centre, Karachi. The workshop was sponsored by Doris Duke Foundation  of Islamic Arts. The workshop was all about Millennium Development Goals, why they are important and how teachers and students can be involved to achieve these goals. ” We” was the main theme focused behind this workshop.

The workshop sessions included PowerPoint presentation on MDGs, poster activity, Team Building and clarity of goals. The MDGs Action Project Guide was also introduced which included some activities that teachers can organize to involve their students in MDGs.

Teachers were really enthusiastic and took equal interest in discussion and showed their earnest desire to be involved in MDGs Project in near future.

A group of 20 teachers from 12 different schools of Karachi, Pakistan attended a 2 days iEARN Beginners Workshop on  Nov 6-7, 2009 organized at iEARN Centre, Karachi. This workshop was sponsored by Doris Duke Foundation  of Islamic Arts.

Teachers were involved in different project based activities during the session and enjoyed the world of online learning. They learned about the importance of internationalizing classrooms and interacted with iEARNers online. On the second day of workshop, the participants were introduced iEARN Calligraphy Arts project to explore the art of calligraphy and posted beautiful calligraphic work in the respective forum.

Different workshop sessions also provided them the opportunity of hands-on practice to identify the iEARN projects that corresponds to their subject areas they are currently teaching and learnt to develop lesson plans to implement in their classrooms.

Catalyst Participants Visit to YouthCaN Conference, NYC, USA

A group of two teachers and one student from Pakistan visited New York city to attend YouthCaN Conference held at American Museum of Natural History in April 2009. In 2008, these teachers Sadia Imam from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Fizza Naqvi from Al Murtaza Boys School and student Sheherbano Rizvi from Al Murtaza Girls School participated in CATALYST Animation training workshop held in Karachi, Pakistan along with other participants and were lucky to be selected to go to USA for the conference. This group represented Pakistan at the YouthCaN NYC Conference and presented their projects before global audience. Delegations of students and teachers from other countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan also attended this conference.  It was a 10 days program from 3rd -11th April which included field trips and visits to museums, art galleries and exhibitions after conference.

Adobe Youth Voices Software Training Workshop, Karachi, Pakistan

iEARN Pakistan arranged a software training workshop for the participants of Adobe Youth Voices Round-2 participants at iEARN Pakistan Centre, Karachi. It was a two days workshop on 27th and 28th of March in which 11 teachers participated and learnt software skills to use Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premier Element. They were given interesting image editing and video making activities through which they learnt basic software skills. Participants enjoyed working on these activities and gained knowledge and skills that will help them to complete their assignments and also in training their students to use them effectively in completion of final projects.  It was a real learning with fun.

World Storytelling day celebrated at Lincoln Corner, Karachi, Pakistan

On March 20, 2009 iEARN Pakistan celebrated World Storytelling Day with Citizens Educational Development Foundation (CEDF) home school children from slum areas, in collaboration with Lincoln Corner Karachi. Total 36 participants including CEDF students, teachers, iEARN facilitators, YES alumni & volunteers attended the session from 10:30 am-12:45 pm.

The program started with the briefing by LC coordinator. Ms. Alema Nasim, from iEARN Pakistan introduced iEARN and its projects and explained the significance of World Storytelling day. After discussing program agenda, the program was handed over to YES alumni who carried out rest of the program activities. 5 volunteers invited to share the tales with audience, each of them told interesting stories with the moral lessons.  Students were then divided into groups. One group wrote the stories, others made sketches of the folk tales and two groups performed in a role plays on these stories. This program helped those under privileged children who even do not have resources to attend the schools, to participate in a global activity and providing them an opportunity to express themselves.

Adobe Youth Voices National Seminar, Karachi, Pakistan

iEARN Pakistan arranged Adobe Youth Voices National Workshop on Friday, 13th Feb 2009 at a local hotel in Karachi. This workshop was the most important phase of year long Adobe Youth Voices program that provides youth with life long experiences of using digital media to create with purpose, communicate their views, be aware of local and global issues and enhance their 21st century skills. iEARN Pakistan arranged this program to exhibit the rough cuts of media pieces produced by youth as their Adobe Youth Voices projects. The aim of the workshop was to get constructive feedbacks and comments from a panel of media experts and educationists. These distinctive personalities included:

·        Mr. Ghazi Salahuddin, well-known journalist and intellectual, editor The News daily newspaper, Geo TV channel program anchor

·        Ms. Beena Sarwar, well known media journalist and documentary filmmaker, ex-producer Geo TV network, specializing in documentary production, , Human rights activist and free lance journalist, her documentary recently awarded as the best documentary award in Jaipur International Film Festival

·        Ms. Zakia Sarwar, well known educationist and chairperson of English subject committee of Higher  Education Commission, Pakistan

·        Mr. Mansoor Naz Vindhani, educationist, human rights activist, free lance journalist and training consultant.

·        Mr. Siddique Sheikh, Chairman of Standing Committee on Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR), Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries

·        Mr. Asif Jaffery, Coordinator, Committee for Management and improvement of schools, (CMIS) Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries and City District Government, Karachi

·         Mr. Ahmed Nawaz Niazi, District Officer (Education) Head Quarter

·         Mr. Lateef Mughal, Assistant District Officer (Education) Jamshed Town, Karachi.

Videos made by participants from 4 different schools were presented and reviewed by the panelists for further improvement.  The participants learned about the different aspects of filmmaking, for example, importance of natural voice while dubbing, speed of title and credits, effective movement of shots and scenes to make the best use of time, importance of story and script etc. Groups of teachers and students from 8 more schools who are selected for Adobe Youth Voices Round 2 also participated in this program. Overall 17 teachers and 95 students attended this seminar. All the participants benefited greatly form the panelists’ experience of media production and addressing social issues.

Catalyst Animation follow-up Workshop at Korangi Academy, Karachi, Pakistan

An animation training workshop was arranged at Korangi Academy, Karachi in collaboration with iEARN Pakistan. This workshop was arranged as a follow up for CATALYST Animation Program training in Karachi in July 2008. A group of 16 students attended this training program to learn basic animation skills to create public service announcements. Students worked in groups and developed short stories focusing social issues like unity, care for others and road accidents.

Self-Portrait Project Activity & YES Orientation at Lincoln Corner, Karachi

On 20th November, 16 students of VM Public School participated in an iEARN project self-portrait activity named 'That's Me'. This event was organized by Lincoln Corner Karachi in collaboration with iEARN Pakistan  to celebrate Universal Children's Day. This activity aimed to build confidence and self esteem among children by giving them self awareness and was facilitated by Ms. Alema and Talha from iEARN PAkistan.

On 21st November, Lincoln Corner Karachi in collaboration with iEARN Pakistan, hosted an Orientation to Youth Exchange & Study Program for 32 students of IX class from VM Public School. The LCK coordinator informed children about International education week 2008. Ms. Farah Kamal, Director iEARN Pakistan gave a brief presentation to audience about YES Program. The YES Alumni, Ms. Midhat shared with children her presentation on her trip to USA on YES program. Talha Qureshi, YES alumni shared his living experiences with US family. In a Q/A session, questions focused on food & living style, family ties & problem resolution in YES trip.

An iEARN Beginners Workshop was arranged at iEARN Centre, Karachi, on 8th November 2008. 26 teachers from different schools in Karachi and Hyderabad participated in this workshop. Focus of the workshop was to introduce iEARN goals and objectives to new teachers who wish to participate in iEARN activities. An introduction to iEARN collaboration centre and iEARN online projects was also given to the teachers. Participants were given time for hands-on activities to work on different projects and post it in the online forums. In the end they were also asked to make a plan for online project which they will later implement in their classrooms.

Creating Publications for Effective Classroom Resources, iEARN Centre, Karachi, Pakistan

iEARN Pakistan arranged a two days workshop for teachers titled “Creating Publications for Effective Classroom Resources” at iEARN Centre, Karachi on 31st Oct and 1st Nov 2008. The workshop was facilitated by Ali Hassan and Alema Nasim from iEARN Pakistan. Sixteen teachers from different schools of Karachi and Hyderabad attended this workshop.

This workshop was arranged to enhance desktop publishing skills of teachers, which can be used in the classrooms as a learning tool. These techniques can be used to create some good quality publications. The skills that were focused mainly were designing of monthly or quarterly newsletters for highlights of school or classroom activities, creating posters or flyers for different events and designing certificates etc.

Catalyst Animation follow-up Workshop at Al Murtaza School, Karachi, Pakistan

An animation training workshop was arranged by The Learning House School with support and collaboration of iEARN Pakistan at Al Murtaza School. It was a two-day workshop for students and teachers from schools in its network. The participating schools included Al Murtaza Boys branch, Al Muratza Girls branch, Al Murtaza Junior branch, Qamar e Bani Hashim School, Fatimiyah School and The Learning House School. The workshop was facilitated by students and teachers of The Learning House School with support of iEARN staff Alema Nasim and Ali Hassan. A group of 9 teachers and 17 students attended this training program to learn basic animation skills to create public service announcements as a part of Catalyst awareness program. This workshop gave them great ideas of technology integration and communicating messages to others in a unique way.

iEARN Catalyst Animation Studio at Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi, Pakistan

iEARN Pakistan has set up another iEARN Animation Studio at Aga Khan Higher Secondary School and handed over The BOX material to the school admin for running this program which includes TheDISC animation software, manual, copy stand, accessories, animation training material etc. These equipments were handed over to the Vice Principal Ms. Shairose Jessani and Mr. Nurali, Program Officer(LT) in presence of other students and teachers. The teachers of AKHSS have already attended a training workshop for this project and now have started working with students to integrate this with their curriculum. They appreciated the idea of using technology for communicating messages to others and to make our youth responsible citizens of the society by high lightening social problems and finding solutions to help people change their attitudes.

CATALYST Animation follow-up Workshop  and Setup of iEARN Catalyst Animation Studio at Islamia Collegiate School, Peshawar, Pakistan

An animation training workshop was arranged by iEARN Catalyst Alumni of Karachi and Peshawar at Islamia Collegiate School, Peshawar on 13th and 14th October 2008. This workshop was arranged as a follow up for CATALYST Animation Program training in Karachi in July 2008. Around 6 teachers and 18 students attended this training program to learn basic animation skills to create public service announcements. This workshop proved to be a great opportunity for the students and teachers of different schools of Peshawar city. The participants focused different social problems faced in the society which included environmental issues, teenage problems, electricity and shock prevention, child labour, women education and natural disasters and used technology skills to produce 30 sec long animated clips.

 

iEARN Pakistan has also installed a complete iEARN Animation Studio at this school which included TheDISC animation software, computer, video camera, copy stand, accessories, animation training material etc.  These equipments were handed over to the principal in presence of students and teachers from this school who are also the alumni of this training program. They have plans to use this for the capacity building of the teachers and students of their school as well as other schools in Peshawar.

Setup of iEARN Animation Studio at The Learning House School, Manghopir, Karachi, Pakistan

iEARN Pakistan has setup iEARN Animation Studio at The Learning House School, Manghopir, Karachi as a part of CATALYST Animation Project. A small ceremony of setting up of studio took place on 10th October, 2008 attended by some teachers, students and admin staff members. A complete set of The Box software, animation training material, PC, Camcorder, Copy stand and some other necessary stuff was handed over to the school administration. The teachers of this school have plans to use this studio as a resources to benefit other students of their school. A great example of peer education will be seen when the students who are already trained in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA and in Karachi animation workshop conducted by Clifford Cohen, director Animaction, Inc, will work as master trainers for their fellow students.

CATALYST Animation Workshop at SMS Aga Khan School, Karachi, Pakistan

A two day workshop for Catalyst animation training was held at Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan School, Karachi, for a group of 12 teachers on 5th and 6th September 2008. Teachers of primary to 12th grade from different learning areas participated in this workshop.

The workshop was planned to provide animation training to teachers who further want to integrate this skill in curriculum especially in Social Sciences and Science learning area. The workshop focused all the stages of creating animated clips. Participants appreciated the idea of using drawing and art for a positive change and said that it was a very good way of team building spirit, create awareness and sense of responsibility among students

Fulbright Scholarship guidance Session for YES Alumni (Karachi)

On 22nd and 24th of August 2008 US Education Foundation Pakistan organized career sessions for YES Alumni in Karachi. On 22nd all the YES Alumni who were interested in applying for Fulbright scholarship in undergraduate program attended a session at USEFP office in Clifton. It was an hour long session in which information about the Fulbright scholarship was provided to all the participants. 25 Alumni participated in this session and showed their interest in applying for Fulbright scholarship next year.

Another similar session was held for senior YES Alumni who were interested in applying for Graduate studies in USA. It was again an hour long session in which alumni discussed applying procedure for Fulbright scholarship and the requirements of US Universities.

CATALYST Animation Workshop at Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, Pakistan

A four day CATALYST Animation workshop was arranged at Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, Pakistan from 19th July to 22nd July 2008. A group of 14 teachers and 22 students attended this workshop, who came to Karachi from different parts of Pakistan which are very prone to natural disasters. The workshop was facilitated by Clifford Cohen, Director AnimAction who came to Pakistan from USA.

The workshop left a wonderful impact on the participants who learnt about natural disasters and how to "be prepared" for these situations. It also created a vision among the participants for using media with a purpose to create awareness  in the society.

 iEARN-Pakistan YES Alumni Program

Teaching English Language, Information Technology and Basic Animation Skills for City District Government School students.

 

This project was in collaboration with City District Government Karachi. YES Alumni conducted English Language, Information technology and animation classes in eight government schools of Karachi. All the schools were located in different areas of Karachi. Duration of each course was three days.

Around 1200 students attended these summer courses. iEARN Pakistan trained YES Alumni volunteers for the Language and Information Technology program, where as 20 Government students and four teachers from two different schools were given animation training so that they could conduct animation course in government schools  on their own. These teachers and students participated in iEARN Animation workshop conducted by the IEARN-Pakistan teachers and trainers.

CATALYST Animation Workshop at Aga Khan School, Mir Pur Sakro

A group of 25 students and 5 teachers from Aga Khan School, Mirpur Sakro got an opportunity to attend a two day animation workshop arranged at their school by iEARN Pakistan on 30th and 31st May 2008. Participants learnt basic animation skills and produced 30 sec animated clips on natural disasters.

CATALYST Animation Workshop at The Learning House School-Karachi

The students and teachers of The Learning House School, Manghopir, Karachi, attended a workshop on 29th and 30th April 2008 arranged at their school. A group of 30 students and 5 teachers attended animation training workshop on the theme of natural disaster. The workshop started with a brief orientation ceremony in which parents and students were invited to share experiences of student who went to Louisiana, USA on Catalyst Exchange Program. The workshop focused on all the basic animation skills that is story building, character designing, story boarding, tracing, animating and finally the post production that included capturing and producing a movie.

CATALYST Animation Workshop for CDGK  Schools- Karachi

A two day workshop was arranged for the students of Government Schools in Karachi on 24th and 25th April 2008 at iEARN Pakistan Centre. A group of 20 students and 8 teachers attended the workshop for animation training. It was full day workshop but participants enjoyed every moment of the workshop and were deeply involved in learning new concepts of using art as a tool of effective communication. The workshop focused on story development, breaking up a story and making story beats, timing out the film, character designing, story boarding, tracing and animating and finally the post production that included capturing and producing an animated clip.

As a part of Global Connection and Exchange program, a workshop titled "Effective Online Project Facilitators Workshop" was arranged at iEARN Pakistan Centre on 22nd March 2008. A group of 20 teachers attended this workshop to learn basic skills for successful project facilitation. It also provided the guidelines for forum interaction and planning and implementing an iEARN project.

CATALYST Animation Workshop- Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA

iEARN-Pakistan, iEARN-Uzbekistan and iEARN-USA have successfully launched natural disaster Youth Art Exchange program named as Community CATALYST Program for  the  year 2007-2008 in partnership with  AnimAction and the Red Stick International Animation Festival. The Animation Exchange and Workshop was arranged in Baton Rouge-Louisiana, USA from 16th March to 31st March in which students and teachers from three countries Pakistan, Uzbekistan and USA participated to develop necessary skills to creating public service announcements and make meaningful contribution to the society. A four day workshop was arranged from 16th to 19th March, 2008. First two days were focused only for teachers and then the rest two days both teachers and students participated.

Digital Imaging Across Curriculum - Karachi

An iEARN Global Connection and Exchange Workshop titled "Digital Imaging Across Curriculum" was arranged for a group of 15 teachers at iEARN Pakistan Centre, Karachi on 9th Feb 2008. The workshop focused at different Art projects like Eye to Eye, Side by Side, Sense of Caring, Folk Costumes Around the World, Cultural Recipe and One Day in the Life-Digital Diary project. The workshop session introduced participants with features of digital camera and its usage, editing a picture through software,  scanning and transmitting digital images and provided hands on experience for these projects.

A Basic Course for ESL/ESL/ESOL Teachers

 

14 teachers from private, community, trust and public schools attended a 3-day workshop for English language teachers conducted from 31st Jan – 2nd Feb, 2008 at Rangoon Wala community centre, Karachi.  The workshop focused on the four language skills; Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking and other secondary skills like grammar, vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation.

Once Upon a Time (Folk Tales) - Peshawar

A group of sixteen teachers from seven Global Connections Schools located in Northwest Frontier Province of Pakistan including Nowshera, Kohat, Mardan and Peshawar participated in a workshop as a part of the iEARN GCEP program in Pakistan. The workshop focused at iEARN Folk Tales project which engages students in writing and sharing folktales, fairy tales and fables as means to connect and share cultures. An iEARN beginners workshop was arranged in Peshawar for participating schools of Community CATALYST program on January 25th, 2008. A group of 13 teachers and 23 students from Karachi, Pakistan attended this workshop.

bullet Using Digital Tools for Creative Classroom Projects - Karachi

iEARN Centre Pakistan scheduled a workshop for teachers for "Using Digital Tools for Creative Classroom Projects" to introduce cutting edge ICT based teaching strategies to educators and to enhance their learning. Due to increased number of interested teachers, the workshop participants were divided in two groups. First group of 15 participants attended workshop on 1st and 2nd June and the second group of 15 teachers got the training on 8th and 9th June 2007.
