Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century

GOALS:

The primary focus of the training  is on

  • developing project-based curricula that integrate national educational standards and integrate 21st century learning skills;
  • addressing how specific technology-based project work meets the curriculum and classroom teaching needs of each participating member;
  • building the skills needed to engage in collaborative activities, such as peer review, team-building, joining regional and international learning communities, computer access scheduling;
  • identifying and introducing connective technologies that are appropriate for the technology situation of the participating educators, such as secure WWW-based forums, global exchanges of art, photographs and other graphic images, videoconferencing, and chatting in a safe environment;
  • creating specific international links with individual educators in other countries with whom to work on age-appropriate online collaborative projects; and
  • exploring after school and student club options for online project-based learning.

OBJECTIVES:

 

We anticipate the training seminar will support participants by addressing:

  • Understanding the purpose, goals, national and international organizational structure of iEARN  

  • Hands on experience of working in the iEARN Collaboration Centre.  

  • Creating international classrooms by integrating iEARN Online Collaborative projects

  • Tools and skills to recruit and train new educators and schools on integrating the iEARN collaborative projects effectively in their classrooms

  • Hands on experience of working on a selection of iEARN projects across curriculum

  • Effectively facilitating iEARN online collaborative projects

  •  Tools and skills to conduct local iEARN workshops, ideas to more fully engage the community (school administrators, parents, government officials) in collaborative projects

  • Exploring the web 2.0 applications including, skype, different social media, webinars, illuminate etc.

  •  How to identify and leverage resources that may be available in their community and engage in partnerships with other organizations to support student projects work

  • Implementing and sustaining iEARN programs in the school networks, and community.

  • Establishing and managing iEARN Clubs and alumni networks

  • Overview of the next 15 months of iEARN Online projects implementation in their school systems

TARGET PARTICIPANTS:

 

We are looking for workshop participants who:

 

-         have some level of iEARN project participation experience

-         posses excellent computer and internet skills

-         have some experience of training and leading workshops and academic sessions etc.

-         can and are willing to spare time or have a position in school whereby they are allowed to support

        colleagues and educators for iEARN projects.

-         can run iEARN training programs and sessions in own school, sister schools and communities.

 

PROGRAM STRUCTURE:

 

Tentative Structure of the iEARN Training of Trainers.

Seminar:   16th January 2010, 

                8:30 am - 4:30 pm

 

Master Teachers Training: 17th-20th January 2010

 

Working hours:         9:00 am - 4:30 pm for four consecutive days

(Lunch and refreshments included.)

 

VENUE:                       Karachi, address to be announced.

 

Detailed Session Outline would be communicated 2 weeks before the training.

 

Registration Fee:

 

Seminar: Free participation and by invitation only. Teachers and leadership from iEARN partner schools and organizations can register using the Registration form available at http://www.iearnpk.org/TOT/10/registration-seminar.htm. Upon approval of registration, a formal invitation card will be issued in the name of the participant.

 

Master Trainers Training:  The registration fee is Rs. 8000/= (Rupees eight thousand only). Seminar participation is free. Participants interested from outside Karachi will have to find their own sponsors to cover accommodation, travel and registration cost.

 

Scholarships: As part of the Doris Duke grant, limited number of  scholarships are available for participants from new but active iEARN schools from outside Karachi as well as international participants. The scholarship will cover the registration, boarding and lodging. Participants have to find their own sponsors to cover travel cost.
