Reason for Selection:
As the academic year is on the verge of ending so I wanted those students to clear their concept which will help them in their examination.
My objective was to teach those subjects to the children of slum areas in which they faced difficulty. As this year is on the verge of ending and the final examinations are quite near I thought that it would be the best community service.
At the start of this project I faced some difficulty because I had to make hand made banners to popularize my project but the people tore my project banners. But I made those banners again but this time I succeeded. In spite I had made banners but I was not confident about the attendance of the maximum number of students so I personally went to every house and shared my project with each one of them.
Now I had to teach 50 students of slum areas their respective subjects. So I allotted 3 weeks for this project and I divided this time into 3 parts. The first 7 days I taught the children of Montessori level till grade 1. The other 4 days I taught the children of grade 2 till grade 5. And for other 10 days I taught the students of grade 6 till grade 10.
I had my examinations during this project so it was a very difficult task for me to accomplish this project to perfection as I had planned, but by the grace of god and with the support of my parents I was able to accomplish my task successfully.
During my examinations I gave these students only one hour but to compensate this lost time, during weekends I gave them 3 hours so that I can achieve my desired goals. During the first week I had to face some difficulty because I had to teach infants. But I first developed friendship and understanding with them and then taught them their respective subjects. I was not able to teach them everything in their course of studies but I taught them until the week was over.
The next 4 days according to my planning I had to teach small students, I had a very good time with them and I realized they had very much misconception because the teachers are not able to attend every student personally. I tried to clear their concepts regarding many terms in General Science, Social Studies and Mathematics and was successful in my attempts, because if these children develop misconception about these basic terminologies then it would be very difficult for them to cope up with this misconception in their future.
My next task was to teach the students of higher secondary level of grade 6 to grade 10. During this period I came to know the weak areas of majority students and I came to know that many students face hurdles in understanding the concepts of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and I tried my level best to clear their humongous misconceptions. I did not divided this period but allowed the students to ask me questions relating to any subject they felt was difficult for them. I made them understand the topics of factorization, chemical bonding and kinematics and many more I was not able to complete my desired target but as a whole I achieved my target.
Results and Outcomes:
This project had many results and outcomes for me and also for the students I have taught.
I also got some advantages from this project not in the form of money or anything else but in the form of satisfaction because if you work for the betterment of the community then you get self reliance and self satisfaction. Many parents came to me and forced me to take some money as I had taught their children so well but I refused and explained them my objective of committing this project.
As my examinations were also being held so by teaching those students I was also able to clear my misconceptions as well. Because “Teaching” is an art or a process in which a tutor makes others learn as well as learn different things from others whom he/she is teaching. This project helped me a lot in my examinations as well.
Another result was the most important for which this project was chosen by me, I wanted to clear the misconceptions in the minds of students of slum areas in the subjects which they felt were difficult for them and I think I succeeded in achieving my desired goal.
