Liyari Famous for Pollution

Social Issue Focused On Pollution:
Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to disperse because we've been ignorant of their value.
Target area/community:
Our target area was Liyari naddi which is famous for its pollution. You will see all types of pollution (air, noise, chemical, water, and dust) there. A community of hard worker is living there who work in hotel as waiters, poor people who taking care of goats, many others. When we reached there, we were surprised to see that how people are living there. All people who are living beside this naddi get benefit from our project. We had just taken small act but we are sure it will not waste.
Community service means to give back to our society, by which to bring a change, for which the society has been waiting for.
“Service to others is the payment we make for our space here on earth”.
Our project action in detail:
Fame of Liyari naddi which is increasing day by day because of its pollution immediately took our attention when we were discussing about community services project. It’s a difficult task for both of us because area surrounded by liyari naddi are very much polluted and large community of people are living there, and it’s a home of many domestic animals too like we saw there group of goats, horses, donkey, cows and too many dogs and cats too…because of these different communities of peoples and animals, We decided to work on this project for a healthy life.
“I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can”.
For this huge purpose we as a group of two girls decided to clean selected area from entire “liyari naddi”, by this small act we showed our keen interest toward our surrounding and by doing this the local people living there can also get advantage and may our work develop sense of awareness in other members of society who are appointed for the betterment and development of our environment.
On 1st March 2008, Saturday morning at 9:00am, we visited the entire liyari naddi and selected a large area with many problems of pollution and another main reason for selecting that place is animals are living there which are suffering from many diseases which also affect the human life. But we are not taking any action on this regard, we have an ability to think for betterment of surroundings but what is the fault of innocent animals which we are using for our own purposes but not doing any thing for them. So we considered to clean that area.
We went there with a vehicle for carrying garbage, two sweeps, polythene bags, and match box. It was a sunny day we started our work firstly by separating plastic bags from other garbage and burnt them because they don’t decompose even if we buried for many years. There were too many holes so we tried to fill them with sand to leveled the surface and make it clean. We sweep the selected area, it was a hard task in full sun shine at 12:00pm but the passion of doing some work for our society didn’t stop us and we completed our task in almost 4hours with a break of 10minutes. Some of the time we faced difficulties, because garbage carrying vehicle was so heavy that we fell most of the time when we were carrying it but we didn’t give up. Our experience is simply the name we give our mistakes. We put the garbage into the vehicles to remove it completely from that area At last we were really very happy to see the area so clean and beautiful. We were feeling as we have cleaned our home, people were looking us with so shocked eyes from the roof of their homes, from the bridge near liyari naddi, from their vehicles and standing beside the road but we didn’t stopped till we completed our task, then at last of our work we played with the baby goats in the area which we had cleaned for the human being and cute animals.
Outcomes or the end result of our project:
Outcomes and result of our project which we felt inside us is that it puts us out of ourselves and lets us see a different part of ourselves, which is important to us. It never feels like a responsibility to us, or an obligation. We love it. Never do we feel better about how we have spent our time than at the end of a day of service and in the result of our project we learnt “the difference between school and life? In school, we are taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, we are given a test that teaches us a lesson.” the brilliant result of our hard work is that when we told people about the consciousness and awareness about this pollution they listened as very carefully and they promise us they don’t make it dirty again which make us very happy and their cooperation was that payment of our hard work and area was looking so beautiful and nice that we saw our shadow on the floor clearly because the area looking so clean and clear with garbage and sun was on our head.
Our learning experiences:
"We are the hero of our own story.” Because we fought with the villain (toxic waste and pollution) of this story (liyari naddi) and we won it. All experience was really great some of the time we got failure but it works as a instructive and we believe that the person who really thinks learns quite as much from his failures as from his successes.” We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what will do, by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery”. But we enjoyed a lot and this project taught us that nothing is impossible because before starting this project we were worried that how we will do but after doing we felt relax and satisfied with our work. Community service has taught us all kinds of skills and increased our confidence. You go out there and think on your feet, work with others and create something from nothing. That's what life's all about. From this experience we learnt a lot that each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing. We found our selves when we lose it for serving others and without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.
ATTENTION PLEASE….. As we visited and observed that the area surrounded with liyari naddi and liyari as beautiful as the other heart alluring areas of Karachi but its need some special attention of Government of Pakistan and people’s support. So the statement that Liyari is famous for pollution will be changed into “Liyari is famous for its beautiness”.
