The first iEARN BRIDGE ILC is established in the SOS HERMANN GMEINER HIGH SCHOOL in March 2003. As a step to ensure equal access to online learning opportunities, the iEARN BRIDGE project provides limited technical support to participating schools . The iEARN ILC at the SOS school comprised of 6 networked Pentium-4 computers, one Laser Printer , one Scanner and high speed Internet Access for 12 months. SOS School is the Project of SOS Children's Village, Rawalpindi which is a Non Government Social Welfare Organization and provide the basic facilities of life and good quality education to every child in the school. The children who live in the SOS Village are orphans and abandoned. The School is also adopted by the Rotary Club International of Islamabd West, whose efforts are exemplary in implementation of iEARN CIVICS-BRIDGE programs in SOS and several other schools in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The age of the students of SOS School -Rawalpindi are from 3.5 to 20 years. They are introduced to online project based learning for the first time through iEARN CIVICS-BRIDGE project. Although the children have limited English language proficiency but generally they are confident. One of the objective of integrating iEARN projects in the school curriculum is for these students to develop communication skills in English and of course to engage them in interaction with peers and experts globally. They are very eager to begin communicating with other children around the world. They are
participating in the the iEARN projects; AQUA-Water and
Animals. |
Three teachers from the SOS School; Ms. Durdana Fatima, Uzma Erum, Ambreen Roohi were trained in the 3 days 2nd iEARN CIVICS-BRIDGE Teachers Training Program Ms.Durdana Fatima, is
selected to participate in the iEARN CIVICS-4 Master Trainners program in
Newyork from 4th -13th May 2003. Noreen Mirza and Zahid Mirza of the Rotary International-Islamabad West, are extremely active in supporting and following up the effective use of the ILC for project implementation and language proficiency of the participating students and educators.
